Federal Reserve Chairman Discusses Rate Hike Expectations and Possibility of July Increase

(Archyde.com) – The chairman of the Federal Reserve reiterated on Wednesday that most members of the U.S. central bank expect two more rate hikes this year and he did not rule out a further hike in July.

“We’ve come a long way with rate hikes,” Jerome Powell told the European Central Bank’s (ECB) annual forum in Sintra, Portugal, adding that the status quo decided in June was meant to take stock of the impact of monetary tightening on the economy.

Although the Fed has yet to decide on future rate strategy, “I wouldn’t discount the possibility of hikes in back-to-back meetings at all,” he said.
