Ars Docendi 2023 awarded to 13 outstanding teachers from five universities and one technical college
Vienna (OTS) – The Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research has been awarding the “Ars Docendi”, the Austrian state prize for excellent teaching, for 10 years. This year, 13 teachers from five universities and one university of applied sciences are among the award winners, to whom the Federal Minister of Education, Science and Research Martin Polaschek presented the award, each worth 7,000 euros, on Thursday evening in Vienna.
“For ten years now, we have been honoring outstanding teachers at Austrian universities with the Ars Docendi, thereby sending an important signal of recognition for their great achievements. These go far beyond the actual excellent teaching. Those who successfully pass on their passion for their own subject to their students also provide a fundamental understanding of how scientific processes work and how we as a society benefit from them. Excellent teachers are therefore also crucial multipliers when it comes to strengthening trust in science in Austria in general. “I would like to thank not only this year’s 13 award winners, but also all 2,974 nominees who have submitted their teaching projects over the past ten years,” says Federal Minister Martin Polaschek.
The Ars Docendi was launched in 2013 to highlight innovative examples of high-quality university teaching and the teachers who developed them. Although teaching has evolved in recent years, this objective has not changed.
In addition to the 5 categories “New digital teaching and teaching methods”, “Cooperative teaching and learning formats”, “Learning outcome-oriented examination culture”, “Research-related or art-led teaching” and “Improving the quality of teaching and studyability”, in which the State Prize for excellent teaching is awarded The “Special Prize for Institutional Teaching Development” was also awarded for the first time this year. This recognizes the continuous promotion of excellent teaching at a university. “Teachers can only be outstanding if the environment gives them the necessary creative freedom and the appropriate support. We want to honor that too,” emphasizes the Federal Minister.
All submissions can be found in the online compendium “Atlas of Good Teaching” (www.gutelehre.at) documented.
