Os federal highway tolls will have to accept Pix as a payment method. This measure was implemented through a new ordinance, which was published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Friday (08). In principle, the initiative serves to establish a policy to encourage the diversification of means of paying tariffs by private concessionaires.
Minister Renan Filho spoke about the subject on social media:
We published this morning in the DOU [Diário Oficial]the ordinance that regulates payment by PIX in all markets [de pedágio] from the country. The measure aims to ensure efficiency and shorten stopping times, in addition to promoting practicality in charging, making it easier for drivers.
According to the Ministry of Transport, this new feature should help reduce queues, in addition to making life easier for drivers by ensuring a more practical way of paying charges, while also being more efficient. In this sense, the companies responsible for operating toll plazas are obliged to make the Pix option available.
With this, users can use this modality or another semi-automatic payment format, such as cell phone applications and credit and debit cards. Tolls, in turn, have a period of 90 days to adapt to the new standard. Viviane Esse is the national secretary of Road Transport and also commented on the matter:
This is yet another measure to modernize the operation on the federal road network granted, an alternative that provides more fluid traffic on the roads and greater safety and convenience for users.
