The Trudeau government interfered once once more in the jurisdiction of the province of Quebec by establishing its insurance plan for dental care.
He did so very recently in the negotiations on health transfers by imposing conditions on the provinces to improve the ridiculous offer he had made to them.
The CAQ government has shown its teeth by being offended and rightly demanding a right to withdraw from the plan with full compensation.
But will he have the ability to bite? The result on the transfers proved us the opposite!
New Democrat Candor
The triumphant appearance of the only NDP member from Quebec was heartbreaking.
He trumpeted that the NDP imposed the implementation of the dental plan on the Trudeau government. He imagines all the NDP might do while in power.
Above all, I imagine an even more centralized Canada that doesn’t give a damn regarding Quebec’s aspirations.
Alexandre Boulerice ignores the federal government’s intrusion into Quebec’s jurisdiction. Worse still, he finds virtues in a program that doesn’t really have any.
Loopholes
Provinces are already rolling out dental care programs for the less fortunate, but these programs are underutilized due to lack of awareness.
According to some professionals, this new federal program will have very little effect and the procedure for claiming dental expenses under the new plan will do nothing to improve the situation.
Remember that this plan is aimed at low-income earners who are struggling to pay for dental care. However, they will have to pay the dentist’s fees themselves and claim them from the federal government, whereas under the Quebec plan, it is the professional who makes the claim to the RAMQ.
The incentive for mouth care will be slim with little effect on overall health. The only effect will be the foot of the federal government in the Quebec door!
