The federal government has announced in recent days the conditions and the extent of its aid to cushion the very high energy costs. This is a package of 135€ reduction on gas, and 61€ on electricity: that makes 196€ per month. (editor’s note: from November 2022 to March 2023).
However, a gray area remained to be clarified. Belgians who live in condominiums, with collective energy contracts, will they be entitled to it?
“Yes, we have found a solution. This will be done via a bonus that can be requested, we cannot do this automatically. The law will be passed in Parliament next Tuesday. This means that, for the basic package ( for the 5 months), those who live in condominiums will also be entitled to this basic assistance. This will be retroactive for the 5 months (from December to March). It is mainly for gas, because for the electricity, these are usually individual meters. But for collective meters, it is also settled now”, specifies the Minister of Energy, Tine Van der Straeten (Groen).
The form will be available on the FPS Economy website once the law is passed.
