The Federal Army is leading the fire-fighting operation in the Dachstein area

Vienna (OTS) Ramsau/Dachstein. The fire that has been blazing in the Silberkarhütte area since yesterday is now being fought by the Austrian Federal Army from the ground and from the air. A total of around 30 soldiers and a total of 8 helicopters from the Federal Army and the Ministry of the Interior are in action. The coordination of the air and ground operations is carried out by the Federal Army.

In addition to the extinguishing forces of the fire brigade and the armed forces, so-called air-liftable “bumby buckets” are also used, with which up to 1000 liters of extinguishing water can be brought by helicopter to the fire site and drained there. “The Federal Army is once once more proving its operational readiness in the air and on the ground when sufficient resources are available,” said Federal Minister Tanner, adding: “With the arrival of the new AW169, we will be able to expand this area of ​​capability even further! We can see In this area too, the necessity and correctness of the new purchases made in order to make the Federal Army fit for the challenges of the future.”

The Federal Army is deployed at over 1,200 meters above sea level and is intended to fight the fire in the Dachstein area, which has now spread to over 2 hectares.
