Federal aid for gas and electricity: how much and for how long?

Help to cushion the very high energy costs is what everyone was waiting for. The day following the federal announcements, we can detail this measure a little more. What is it exactly? In short, 85% of the Belgian population will be entitled to it, with a few subtleties.

The federal government has specified the conditions and extent of its aid to cushion the very high energy costs. In the followingmath of the federal announcements, now that the budget is closed, we can detail this measure a little more. What is it exactly? 85% of the Belgian population will be entitled to it.

What are we talking regarding ?

This is a package of 135€ reduction on gas, and 61€ on electricity: that makes 196€ per month. (editor’s note: from November 2022 to March 2023)

For who ?

Are concerned:

> Variable contracts and fixed contracts since October 1, 2021
> Those who earn up to €62,000 net/year or €125,000 as a couple.
For those who earn more, they will also receive this aid but will be taxed on the sum and will therefore pay a part to the tax authorities, via their tax return.

Comment ?

You don’t have to do anything to benefit from it. The amount will be deducted directly from your invoice. A credit note will be made if your down payment is less than the aid. Everything will be automatic except for those who have a collective gas boiler. You will then have to fill out a form on the FPS Economy website, available in the coming weeks.

How long ?

This aid should allow 85% of Belgians who can benefit from it to amortize the cost of their heating this winter. The package will be effective from November 2022 to March 2023, i.e. a total aid of €980.
