Feasibility study of Muscat Metro Rail Network this month

The feasibility study of the Muscat metro rail network will begin this month. Routes will be determined after the study is completed. Oman’s population is expected to reach 7.5 million by 2040, according to Ibrahim bin Hamood Al Wiley, director of the Office of the Follow-up Unit for National Urban Development at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.

In the governorate of Muscat, it is estimated that this will increase to about one million people. Therefore, it is time to strengthen the means of transportation, including the metro network, he said.

Metro services will be available at several centers in the capital, including Matra, Zeeb and Ruwi. The decision on whether the metro will be underground or above will be made after a thorough study of the structural plan of the metro.

The feasibility study of Metro is being carried out by a committee headed by Khamis Al Shammaki, Under Secretary for Transport, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT). The committee will also decide how to build the metro, its financial viability, routes and number of passengers.
