Fears of exclusion from social dialogue plague Moroccan engineers, who recently held a meeting that resulted in an escalation of their protests by holding a protest in front of Parliament on April 25, amid warnings of “mass migration abroad.”

Among the conclusions of the meeting of the National Union of Moroccan Engineers, held last Thursday night, was the existence of neglect and exclusion of the demands of this group since the beginning of the current social dialogue, following they were relying on this station to deliberate on the basic system and raise the wages of engineers in the public sector.

This comes at a time when the Union previously threatened to draw up a struggle program if the demands of the engineers were not met and a dialogue was opened with them by the Ministry delegated in charge of the budget.

In response to this issue, Al-Hassan Al-Mukhi, Secretary General of the National Union of Moroccan Engineers, revealed that “the social dialogue is approaching its end and there is no talk regarding the demands file for engineers,” adding that this matter “prompted them to hold a meeting to express their concern regarding the continued absence of dialogue.” For more than a year and a half.”

Al-Mukhi explained, “This group received previous promises regarding addressing their demand file following completing the files of education and health employees, but they were surprised that they were not invited to the current social dialogue.”

According to the same spokesman, the failure to invite the most representative unions to dialogue up to now has prompted the engineers to escalate by launching a protest next Thursday in front of Parliament, indicating that the steps they had previously adopted “are no longer sufficient to convince the guardian ministry to meet their demands.”

The union activist warned that “the absence of a dialogue regarding the engineers’ demands will push them to emigrate abroad,” noting that “the demand file was submitted in 2022 to the Prime Minister regarding the necessity of approving a new basic system, which includes reviewing the 2011 decree and introducing amendments to it.”

It should be noted that the demands of Moroccan engineers in the public sector include approving a new statute, raising wages, and regulating the practice of the engineering profession, according to the Secretary-General of the National Union of Moroccan Engineers.
