Most people want security in their relationships. Being held together and showing care are things that add security. But do you feel the fear of abandonment from close relationships? Sadaf Siddiqui, a psychotherapist, has shared on Instagram what is that condition and how to get out of it.

Behind the fear of abandonment is excessive anxiety in relationships due to various factors. Childhood traumas, insecurities and issues like borderline personality add momentum to this. Sadaf explains what is behind this situation.

Sadaf says that those who have experienced neglect, rejection, or mistreatment from a parent or guardian may have an increased fear of abandonment later on.

This condition can also occur in those who have gone through one or more traumatic situations and who have grown up in situations where there is a lack of affection and lack of physical, emotional and personal care.

Sadaf says these are the symptoms of fear of abandonment

  • Look for signs that your partner or friends don’t like you or spend time with you.
  • A feeling of having to please others at one’s own expense.
  • Lack of personal boundaries in relationships.
  • Continually ensuring even small things.
  • Self-esteem and confidence issues.
  • Stay in unsatisfying relationships because you don’t want to be isolated or alone.

Sadaf also tells ways to avoid this situation

  • Be active in areas like arts and sports that boost your confidence.
  • Seek help through friends, online, and therapists.
  • Change habits to prioritize your needs. Focus on regular sleep, physical activity and nutrition.
  • These include coping with stressful situations through therapy, meditation, and journaling.
