The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday cleared updated COVID-19 booster vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech for children ages five and older.

These booster vaccines are intended to provide better protection once morest COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant, according to the FDA.

The FDA has cleared updated booster vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech for children ages five to 11, and vaccines from Moderna for children ages six to 17.

These vaccines are given at least two months following completion of the first two-dose vaccine series or the most recent first-generation booster dose.

Pfizer-BioNTech’s new booster shots were licensed for people ages 12 and older in September, while Moderna’s shots were already licensed for adults 18 and older.
