FDA Approves New Over-the-Counter Ointment for Erectile Dysfunction: Fast-Acting and Affordable Solution for Men

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the approval of a new over-the-counter ointment used to treat erectile dysfunction. The gel is available in single-use tubes and is rubbed directly on the head of the penis before sex.

The ointment contains a mixture of volatile solvents that evaporates quickly when applied, stimulating nerve endings and causing the release of nitric oxide and relaxation of the smooth muscle tissue inside the penis to increase blood flow and achieve an erection.

According to clinical trials, 65% of men who used the ointment achieved an erection within 10 minutes and kept it long enough to have sex. By comparison, traditional prescription ED medications take regarding 30 minutes to work.

The side effects of the ointment were 3%, including headache and nausea, but only occurred in 1% to 3% of men. No side effects have been reported for sexual partners.

As for prices, no information is yet available regarding the cost of the ointment in the US, but in the UK where it is already available under the name “Iroxone” without a prescription, the cost of a package of 4 tubes is estimated at $ 32.
