This news is not unexpected, but surprisingly early. FC Südtirol parted ways with head coach Pierpaolo Bisoli on Monday. The dismissal of the successful coach from the previous year had become apparent.

The FCS said goodbye to Bisoli early on Monday evening with a (very) short press statement. After the 0-1 defeat once morest Como on Sunday, the club management apparently felt forced to act. Bisoli will be succeeded by Federico Valente. The Italian with Swiss roots previously coached FC Südtirol’s U19 Primavera team.
“Pierpaolo Bisoli is no longer the coach of FC Südtirol. The exemption applies with immediate effect. The club would like to thank Bisoli for the work he has done and for the extraordinary successes that were celebrated together in the 2022/23 season. FC Südtirol wishes Bisoli every success for the course of his career.” With these words, the White-Reds said goodbye to the coach, who had sensationally led the team to the playoff semi-finals just five months ago. But now it’s over for Bisoli in South Tyrol.
Things had been simmering between Bisoli and sports director Paolo Bravo for a long time. It was an open secret that the two had very different views on football. Bravo also showed during the Lamberto Zauli case that he doesn’t hesitate for long. Bravo is a decision-maker and led the FCS from Serie C to Serie B and established it there last year. The choice of bringing in Bisoli as Zauli’s successor turned out to be the right one. Whether Bravo would do the contract extension once more in the summer is another matter. The fact is that Bisoli had to leave on Monday.
Junior coach Valente as successor
His successor comes from our own ranks. Valente has successfully coached the White-Red U19 team so far. In contrast to Bisoli, the former youth coach of SC Freiburg (click here for the large SportNews portrait of Valente) stands for an offensive style of football, where playing with the ball is an important part. Valente joined FCS from Germany in the summer. During his playing career as a goalkeeper he was under contract with Thun and Wohlen, among others. Valente is currently completing the course in Switzerland for the UEFA Pro license, which is necessary for a coaching bench in Serie B.
