FC St. Pauli extended with Jackson Irvine

The captain will stay with the club for the long term.

FC St. Pauli is showing continuity and signing an early extension with captain Jackson Irvine. Sports director Andreas Bornemann reached an agreement with the Australian national player on a long-term continuation of the working paper, which was originally dated June 2024.

Irvine moved to Millerntor in July 2021 and has played 42 competitive games for the brown and white team since then. He scored four goals and four assists. The midfielder previously played for Hibernian FC in Scotland, for whom he made 21 appearances (1 goal, 3 assists) and for English second division side Hull City, where he recorded 10 goals and nine assists in 112 games. Irvine has also been part of the Australia national team since 2013, for which he scored seven goals and eight assists in 49 games. Most recently, he managed to qualify for the World Cup finals with the Socceroos.

The votes for the contract extension:

Sport director Andreas Bronemann: “Jackson has repeatedly proven his value for the team and the club and has quickly become a leader and a role model. I think both sides know what they have in each other. That is why we are very pleased that the trusting and open discussions quickly led to an agreement on long-term cooperation.”

Head coach Timo Schultz “The fact that Jackson is already leading the team as captain following only one season with us underlines his importance for us. With his will to win, he stands for the classic St. Pauli virtues and represents the club on and off the pitch in an excellent way. It’s a great signal to have him in our squad for the years to come.”

Jackson Irvine: “It means a lot to me that FC St. Pauli sees me as part of their future, because I feel incredibly comfortable at the club and in the city. It is a great honor and makes me very proud to be able to lead the team as one of the captains following such a short time. I look forward to continuing to work on development and mutual success in the coming years.”
