Quarantine instead of Australia!
Jackson Irvine from FC St. Pauli had imagined it very differently. The Australian wanted to sit on the plane to the national team on Sunday. Important matches for World Cup qualification are first in Sydney once morest Japan and then in Riyadh once morest Saudi Arabia.
But the midfielder had to cancel because of Corona.
First a quick test on Saturday was positive, as was the subsequent PCR test. The fully vaccinated Irvine is now isolated in home quarantine. It is not known whether, like Afeez Aremu before him, he is complaining of symptoms.
Personally, it comes off very incongruously for Irvine. The timing is not so unfortunate for St. Pauli – the international break is coming up. Should Irvine fall ill, however, a deployment in the next promotion final in Rostock in two weeks would be in danger.
Its infection can also be dangerous for players and officials of Friday’s game. The probability for the Heidenheim players is rather small, since the teams stayed separately in the catacombs of the Millerntor, where the risk of infection is said to be significantly lower in the fresh air.
It’s a completely different story with the Kiez kickers. Here the proximity is logically greater. The next few days will show if more pros are positive.
