The “little one” was on the verge of biting into the big one! FC St-Blaise disposed of FC Bosna 4-2 following extra time on Sunday evening at Pierre-à-Bot in the final of the Neuchâtel Cup. But the Littoral club – current second in the championship of 2e league – came from afar once morest the leader of the group 1 of 3e league. In front of 1,960 spectators, FC St-Blaise was still trailing 2-0 less than a quarter of an hour from the end. He managed to reverse a very compromised situation in stoppage time before flying into extra time.
FC St-Blaise timid
FC Bosna got into the game better. Faced with St-Blaisois who struggled to free themselves, the resident of Geneveys-sur-Coffrane favored a more vertical game and speculated on counter-attacks. And it was of course on a well-conducted breaking action that he pushed the opponent to the fault, opening the scoring on penalty by Miljan Govedarica in the 34the minute.
If FC St-Blaise appeared more determined following the break, José Saiz’s players were foolishly surprised on a throw-in from their opponent: Sanin Memic doubled the lead (58e) shortly before game time.
Equalization in stoppage time
The case seemed heard. Well no ! FC St-Blaise threw themselves headlong into battle. Ray Williams Amadio scored with a shot taken from sixteen yards in the 78e minute. The twist came in the last moments of stoppage time (97th) in the form of a penalty converted by Samuel Ferreira da Silva. Two everywhere, time for extra time!
These turned in favor of FC St-Blaise, more skilful in putting down the game and spinning the ball: the third goal came in the 105th minute at the end of a manual scheme concluded by a magnificent cross volley from Tomas Rocha Santos on a long aerial diagonal from Samuel Ferreira da Silva. Ewan Saiz sealed the final score three minutes later. More than 30 years following their last title, FC St-Blaise once once more lifted the Neuchâtel Cup and thus qualified for the next edition of the Swiss Cup.
As for FC Bosna, they have demonstrated that they have plenty of potential to play in 2e league next season. He may also soon have the opportunity to lift a trophy, that of champion of 3e league. “We will come back next year to win the trophy,” underlined captain Yannick Herrera.
