Schalke 04’s Injury Woes: A Comedy of Errors
Ah, FC Schalke 04, the club that treats their fans like a rollercoaster ride, thrilling and terrifying all at once. Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse after suffering a 0-1 disgrace against Hannover 96, the football gods threw in a knee injury for goalkeeper Michael Langer. You’ve got to hand it to Schalke—they really know how to keep the drama alive!
Michael Langer: Who Needs Goalkeepers, Anyway?
Let’s discuss Michael Langer for a moment. The poor chap has been nursing a knee injury and will now be taking the scenic route away from the pitch for a few weeks. Strangely enough, he wasn’t even warming the bench for the first part of the season. I mean, imagine being the third goalkeeper. You have two guys ahead of you, and now it turns out even your nonexistent playing time has been revoked!
And while we’re at it, can anyone explain why a club like Schalke 04 would miss a player who was never really a player? Instead, they’ll likely bring in some young hopefuls from the U19 and U23 teams. Grab your popcorn, folks; this could be a disaster movie in the making!
More Woe: The Injury List Gets Longer
But wait, there’s more! The injury bug must see Schalke as its new home—Emil Hojlund is also sidelined with those pesky Achilles tendon issues, while Adrian Gantenbein continues to be a spectator due to a calf issue. I know what you’re thinking: “Didn’t they just sign him?” Just goes to show, sometimes new signings come with the “exclusive limited edition injury package!”
Perhaps they should consider retaining a very special medical staff—a team specializing in playing musical chairs with their injured players. Just when you think you’ve got your leg stretched out, you’re in a different line up—a bit like being in a queue for the loo at a rock concert!
The Hits Keep Coming: More Players on the Sideline
If you thought the injury woes ended there, brace yourselves! Christopher Antwi-Adjei is also in the wars after sustaining a thigh injury during the international break. Talk about a nightmare scenario for head coach Kees van Wonderen. I’m not saying he’s running out of players, but he might want to put a “For Sale” sign on some of those training cones.
And let’s not forget about Ilyes Hamache, who cut his last training session short thanks to foot pain, and Tobias Mohr, who appears to be auditioning for the role of a writhing football player after a collision. Honestly, it might be easier to name the players who are fit to play at this point!
Preparing for Fürth: A Herculean Task
As Schalke 04 heads into their home game against Greuther Fürth on Saturday (October 26th, 1 p.m.), one has to wonder if they’ll even have enough players to form an actual team. It feels as if they’re trying to fill in blanks on a form written in invisible ink. The only thing they might have going for them is that it’s a home game, and surely the home fans will cheer them on—bless their hearts!
So here’s to FC Schalke 04, a club caught in a whirlwind of injuries and misfortune. Grab the popcorn and adjust your expectations—it’s bound to be a right laugh watching this comedy of errors unfold!
The bad news at FC Schalke 04 doesn’t stop! After the 0-1 disgrace against Hannover 96, when the Royal Blues showed a terrible performance, S04 has now announced the loss of a goalkeeper.
More specifically, this is about goalkeeper Michael Langer, who will not be available to FC Schalke 04 for a few weeks. But he’s not the only one who will still be missing from S04.
FC Schalke 04 announces Langer’s loss
As FC Schalke 04 announced, Michael Langer will have to take a step back due to a knee injury. The Knappen’s third goalkeeper wasn’t even in the Gelsenkirchen squad this season and has no chance against the other two goalkeepers Ron-Thorben Hoffmann and Justin Heekeren.
Also interesting: Schalke 04 has their sights set on a mega jewel – but there is a big problem
Langer will now be out for a few weeks. As in the past, head coach Kees van Wonderen will probably bring some goalkeepers from the U19 and U23 teams into training to get an idea of them. But primarily so that more than just two keepers train with us.
But that’s not the only bad news before the home game against Greuther Fürth on Saturday (October 26th, 1 p.m.). Emil Hojlund, who was missing against Hannover due to Achilles tendon pain, was also absent from Monday’s opener. He probably won’t be available against Fürth either.
Gantenbein is still out
The same applies to Adrian Gantenbein. The new signing from FC Schalke 04 is still suffering from his calf injury from the friendly against FC Aarau. Van Wonderen will therefore still have to do without the Swiss. Christopher Antwi-Adjei, who sustained a thigh injury during the international break, is continuing his individual development training. It remains to be seen whether it will be enough against Fürth.
More news for you:
It could also be tight for Ilyes Hamache. The FC Schalke 04 offensive player had to end the final training session before the Hannover game early due to foot pain and only trained individually on Monday and Tuesday. Tobias Mohr complained of pain in his upper body after a collision. He also trained away from the team.
