Mission accomplished for FC Lucerne who took the Swedes out of Djurgarden.

After having achieved a feat by winning the first leg in Stockholm once morest Djurgarden (1-2), the status of FC Lucerne has changed. A week later, on his lawn at the Swissporarena, he went from outsider to favorite in the third qualifying round of the Conference League in the return match.

Mario Frick’s men seemed to escape the pressure early in the game. Despite a lack of pace at high level at the start of the season, they have not given up on the current 4th in the Swedish championship, who has already played 18 games in his country. At the end of the first period, the statistics were very fair: possession of the ball was Swedish, but only very slightly (52%), the two teams had each shot three times on goal and scored twice.

Lucerne takes the lead in the 27th

It was Marco Burch who opened the scoring for the Swiss (27th). At the end of this first half, Joel Asoro equalized for the visitors. A regret all the same for Lucerne, this success having fallen following six minutes of stoppage time.

Upon returning from tea, the Swedes pressed so much and more. They created a few big chances (46 real chances to 19), but they only aimed their shots once. Too little to really worry doorman Pascal Loretz, only 20 years old. It was even Lucerne who might have won in the last minute, on a strike just too high from captain Max Meyer.

Goalkeeper Pascal Loretz does the job

Then at the last second or so, it was Pascal Loretz who did the job of a superb dive. The score therefore remained at 1-1, which gives the qualification to Lucerne. Two years ago, they had already reached this third qualifying round. They will find the Scottish club Hibernian there.

The first leg has been scheduled for August 10 in Edinburgh. As for the return, it will take place on the 17th in Lucerne.
