FC Bayern has bagged the tenth championship title in a row. Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic also speaks to Sky90 regarding disappointments of the 2021/22 season.

Munich – The FC Bayern did it once more. At the On Saturday evening (April 23), Bayern Munich were crowned German champions for the tenth time in a row once morest BVB. With a 3-1 victory in the Allianz Arena once morest Borussia Dortmund on the 31st matchday of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season, FCB had already won the title. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann celebrated his first championship title as a coach.

Ten championships in a row – an achievement for the history books. No club in the five major European leagues (Germany, England, Spain, Italy, France) has ever managed that. Even before that, FCB was the record holder in terms of the championship series, but not alone. Bayern had to share the previous record of nine championships in a row with Juventus Turin. Juve won nine Scudettos in a row in Italy’s Serie A from 2012 to 2020.

A day following 32nd championship title in club history Hasan Salihamidzic is a guest Sky90. The FCB sports board commented there on the historic title win of the record champion. But the disappointments of the season, such as the loss in the Champions League once morest Villarreal or the rough cup disgrace at 0: 5 in Mönchengladbach, should also come up for discussion.

FC Bayern: Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic on Sky90 regarding…

… the champion party of Munich following the BVB victory: “It was very nice, the boys were in a very good mood. With family and friends It was a great evening – the Allianz Arena was full, the fans gave us great support.”

… the surprising end in the quarter-finals of the Champions League once morest Villarreal FC: “Of course I’m annoyed and all of us because we had a great opportunity. I figured my chances would be great. We didn’t play well in Spain. We were well served there, we might have conceded three or four goals. (…) We now have to get back to our day’s work, but that’s going to stick.”

… BVB as the main competitor in the championship: “Of course we have great respect for the work that Borussia Dortmund does. This is the number one rival. What happened in Leipzig and Leverkusen is also great, the Bundesliga needs that. We don’t want to be champions with a lead of 15 or 20 points.”

FC Bayern: Weidenfeller teases sports director Salihamidzic regarding Lewandowski

… trainer Julian Nagelsmann and the cooperation: I’m pleased that we made it with this coaching team. That’s why we got Julian, because we want to start a new era with this coach, this coaching team. Our work is very, very good, we talk a lot, try to analyze every day, look at the training. He is a very communicative trainer, very open. It’s tremendous fun to work with him. It’s also a process for the team, the guys see that he has a lot of know-how. What is created there – the boys notice that there is really something in Julian. We will try to expand that.

… Roman Weidenfeller’s statement that Robert Lewandowski left the master party following an hour: “I can’t say anything, I have no idea. I was at a different table and can only say that the mood was great.”

FC Bayern: Salihamidzic demands an increase from Sané – “Expect him to explode”

… Leroy Sane and his fluctuations in performance: “Leroy is an incredibly talented young man who has everything. He’s super fast, has dribbling, and he’s also mentally tense. But now must come. When he’s got that body tension, it’s fun to watch. If not, then I don’t like it. I don’t want to see that.”

“We always talk regarding potential. I want to see that on the pitch. If you tell him once, twice, three times. (…) At some point it has to bang. The team also expects him to explode, to give his all in training and in games. He can. In the last few weeks, he hasn’t been able to retrieve that. He is someone who listens to what the coach and the team talk to him regarding. I hope he implements that.”

FC Bayern: Salihamidzic rules out Lewandowski’s early departure

… the contract situation around record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski: “We have all the time in the world to talk to him regarding the contract. We haven’t negotiated yet. Do we.”

“Of course we want to keep him. Lewy is held in the highest regard that anyone can have. He reciprocates with performances. We want to see how far we can reach our goals. You have to allow FC Bayern to look: How far are we going, how much money do we have? We spoke every now and then. About everything, of course you talk regarding contracts, also with your advisor. Nevertheless, we are happy and proud that he is there. Now we wait for the talks. It is clear that he has a contract for next season.”

…when asked if FC Bayern would sell Lewandowski for a sum of 30 to 40 million following the end of the season: “No.”

…when asked if he can rule out a sale of Lewandowski in the summer of 2022: “Yes. He has a contract.”

FC Bayern: According to Salihamidzic, Süle’s whereregardings failed because of the money

… Niklas Süle and his departure to BVB: “Niklas is a great boy. What is the worst thing for a club? When a player of that age makes a free transfer. It also has to be said that we didn’t have the wherewithal to please him. We’ve already tried to hold Niklas. We also know how important he is in the dressing room. I’m sorry that Niklas is leaving. But we have to look ahead.”

… possibly lack of appreciation for Süle: “We spoke often, also with the management. The playing time Julian has given him this year has been the greatest appreciation for a player for me. We mightn’t make it in the negotiations.”

… when asked whether Süle’s whereregardings ultimately failed because of the money: “In the end, yes.”

FC Bayern: Sports director Salihamidzic on the Gravenberch transfer – “It’s difficult”

… player departures free of charge, as in the case of Süle: “It destroys football. Free transfers make us clubs weaker and weaker. Especially in the pandemic.”

… the possible move from Ajax star Ryan Gravenberch to Munich: “He’s a good player. We’re in talks, I can say that much. With a transfer like this, a lot has to fit. Tendency? I can not say it. It’s tough. All transfers are difficult.”
