FC Barcelona had a dramatic evening at Athletic Club in Bilbao. The Catalans were stuck at 0-0 and coach Xavi saw Frenkie de Jong and Pedri fall out injured.
Barcelona does not benefit from the draw of leader Real Madrid a day earlier at Valencia (2-2). However, the number 3 of La Liga lost a point to Girona, which lost 1-0 at Real Mallorca. Barcelona has 58 points, Girona 59. Real is in the lead with 66 points.
The first half in Bilbao was mainly one of low points. De Jong had to leave in the 26th minute because his right ankle was doubled following a duel with Unai Gómez. The Dutch international had to be taken off the field in a cart. Nothing is yet known regarding the severity of the injury.
Even before half time, coach Xavi also saw the often injured Pedri drop out. João Cancelo had previously tried to surprise the Athletic goalkeeper from a distance, but defender Yeray Álvarez prevented a hit. In the second half, both teams were unable to make a fist and there were hardly any more chances.
