FC Barcelona Dominates Antwerp in Champions League Opener with 5-0 Victory: A Dream Start

It’s off to a good start for Barça. For its first of the season in the Champions League, FC Barcelona outclassed the modest Antwerp team 5 goals to 0 this Tuesday evening in the group stage. Félix (10th and 66th), Lewandowski (18th), Bataille (CSC, 21st) and Gavi (53rd) offered a “manita” in the form of a demonstration to a Catalan team which logically took the lead in group H.

A dream start

They had revenge to take with the most beautiful European competition. One thing is certain, the Catalans did not miss their reunion with the Champions League. Eliminated early in the group stage over the last two seasons, FC Barcelona has started its 2023/2024 C1 campaign in the best possible way.

Presented, rightly, as the big favorites of their group, Xavi Hernandez’s players held their place by crushing the reigning Belgian champion with a clear score of 5-0. Very quickly in front on the scoreboard thanks to an early goal from Joao Félix (10th, 1-0), the Blaugrana then needed only three minutes to definitively knock out an Antwerp team that left with good intentions, but too quickly overwhelmed by Barcelona talent.

The inevitable Robert Lewandowski (18th, 2-0) first took advantage of the superb work of Félix to double the lead from close range before Raphinha, on an overflow from the left side, pushed the unfortunate Jelle Bataille (21st, 3 -0) to score against his side. Already assured of victory, Barça did not slow down the pace, on the contrary continuing to manhandle the Antwerp rearguard.

The revival of Joao Félix

More discreet but no less valuable until then, Gavi (53rd, 4-0) also participated in the party after returning from the locker room by definitively cooling the men of the ex-Catalan Mark Van Bommel with a missile from the left under the bar of Jean Butez. Then, as if to better remind Atlético Madrid that he is indeed a completely different player since he put on the Barça tunic, Joao Félix (66th, 5-0) masterfully sealed with his head the great Catalan success by taking a chiseled cross from Raphinha at the far post.
