We’ve already talked here at TC regarding several cases where technology has helped to find missing people, whether through cell phones, smart watches and bracelets, air tags, and so on, but this week, we learned regarding a case where the FBI managed to find a missing teenager thanks to its Nintendo Switch, which informed the user’s online status and allowed the authorities to discover her whereregardings.
According to ACB15, US authorities were trying to find a teenager who disappeared from her home in Virginia in August 2022, and through the Nintendo Switch, they discovered her active profile in Tolleson, Arizona, more than 3 thousand kilometers away. From home.
The 15-year-old was allegedly taken away by 29-year-old Ethan Roberts, who by allowing the young woman to take his Nintendo Switch allowed authorities to pinpoint her location.
When she logged in online to view YouTube content and download a game, her friends saw that information and alerted the adults.
While local authorities expanded the search zone, the young woman was already in a car heading to Arizona, and as soon as friends reported that she was online, authorities were able to discover her location, something that happened 11 days following the disappearance.
Roberts was charged in federal court with transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and possession of child pornography. He was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.
So, can you imagine that the Switch might save a life?
