The Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) of Cuba reported on Cuban TV that an active tropical wave in the central Caribbean Sea is generating a disorganized area of showers, rains and thunderstorms.
In the coming days, the system is expected to continue its movement towards the west, increasing the areas of showers and rains in the eastern region of Cuba. As it moves westward across the western Caribbean Sea, a broad area of low pressure will form.
From there, explained meteorologist Yinelys Bermúdez, oceanic and atmospheric conditions could become favorable for the formation of a tropical depression, very close to Central America, where slow movement is expected.
“Forecast models show several possible trajectories for this cyclonic organism. Some trajectories take it towards the west-northwest, over Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula, while other models suggest a slow movement over the western Caribbean Sea,” he said.
For this reason, he noted, the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology maintains close monitoring of the evolution and trajectory of this active tropical wave, which is currently only an area of research.
“A tropical cyclone has not formed yet,” they reassure INSMET
“A tropical cyclone has not formed yet. Future updates on the evolution and trajectory of this system will be provided in a clear, precise and timely manner in the different live news spaces, both on Cuban radio and television,” said Bermúdez.
Weather in Cuba: November 12, 2024
At this time, the weak influence of high migratory pressures persists on Cuba. Some showers, rains and thunderstorms occur in the afternoon in some locations in the interior and south of the country, favored by the presence of an upper trough and favorable conditions in the middle levels of the atmosphere, in addition to local factors.
The weather forecast for this Tuesday indicates a cloudy dawn from Camagüey to Guantánamo, with the occurrence of some showers, rains and thunderstorms. In the rest of the country, a dawn with little cloudiness is expected.
From the end of the morning and during the afternoon, there will be numerous showers, rains and thunderstorms in the eastern region, where the rains could be heavy in some localities in the south east.
As for temperatures, the early morning minimums will remain with little variation, with some showers and thunderstorms in inland and southern areas of the central and eastern regions. The minimum temperatures in the early morning will range between 21 and 24 °C, and the maximum temperatures in the afternoon between 29 and 32 °C.

**Interview with Meteorologist Yinelys Bermúdez on the Current Tropical Wave in the Caribbean**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Yinelys. Can you explain the situation regarding the active tropical wave reported in the Caribbean?
**Yinelys Bermúdez:** Thank you for having me. Currently, we have an active tropical wave located in the central Caribbean Sea, which is creating a disorganized area of showers, rains, and thunderstorms. This system is expected to move westward, bringing increased rainfall to the eastern regions of Cuba.
**Editor:** What can we expect as this system continues to move west?
**Yinelys Bermúdez:** As the system progresses, it will likely develop into a broad area of low pressure. Our analysis indicates that oceanic and atmospheric conditions could become conducive for the formation of a tropical depression, particularly near Central America where the movement is expected to be slow.
**Editor:** Are there any predictions about the possible paths this system might take?
**Yinelys Bermúdez:** Yes, indeed. Our forecast models show several potential trajectories. Some suggest that it could move west-northwest over Central America and the Yucatán Peninsula, while others indicate it might remain over the western Caribbean Sea for a longer period.
**Editor:** That sounds concerning. What measures are being taken to monitor this situation?
**Yinelys Bermúdez:** The Forecast Center at the Institute of Meteorology is closely monitoring the development and trajectory of this active tropical wave. Currently, it is noted as an area of research, and we’ll continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
**Editor:** Thank you, Yinelys, for sharing your insights. We appreciate your expertise on this important matter.
**Yinelys Bermúdez:** My pleasure. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to track this tropical wave.
