Head of State Faure Gnassingbé proceeded this Tuesday, March 21 to the launch of the work on the third phase of the Blitta photovoltaic solar power plant in the central region.
This third phase should increase the capacity of the plant from 50MW to 70MW, in line with the country’s strategy which aims to promote renewable energies and provide reliable, affordable and clean energy to all localities.
This new phase of the project is benefiting from debt financing of approximately CFAF 16 billion delivered by the Abu Dhabi Export Office (ADEX), created by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
The information shows that with the increase in its capacity, the Blitta photovoltaic solar power plant connected to the network of the Electric Community of Benin (CEB), will now supply 222,000 households once morest 158,333 currently.
Commissioned in June 202, the Blitta solar power plant has already achieved annual production of nearly 83,000 MWh in 2022, with a forecast of 82,000MWh.
Togo’s short-term ambition is to increase the share of renewable energies in the energy mix to 50%, in accordance with the objectives of the electrification strategy set out in the government’s Togo Roadmap 2025.
