More than 900 fatalities have been caused by the attack by the terrorist group Hamas. In this raw and real context, fiction has once once more been present through a television story that a couple of years ago had already portrayed the danger of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This is Fauda, a Netflix series co-created by Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, which has captured international attention for its focus on the war problems between Israel and Palestine. Furthermore, what has left viewers speechless is knowing that its protagonist recently participated in rescue missions to the south of his own country.

First broadcast in 2015 on Israel’s Yes network, the story has found a global audience through the red “N,” where it slowly continues to grow a following. The production’s title, which means “chaos” in Arabic, follows a team of Israeli special forces operating behind enemy lines, addressing both military operations and the interpersonal tensions that arise in a highly volatile and deadly environment.

The program represents both sides of the conflict, both Israel’s forces and the violent actions of Hamas. It is a production that is characterized by showing several action sequences injected with a good dose of drama, where problems are the daily bread for its characters. However, as adrenaline-charged as it is, it also offers a space for dialogue and reflection.

The show’s relevance is magnified by the fact that co-creators like Lior Raz have personal experience with the conflict. Raz, in addition to having been the protagonist of the fiction for six years, was a member of the Duvdevan unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), specialized in missions in the West Bank. His experience was the perfect detail for fans to follow from the beginning to the end of the fiction, in addition to providing a layer of authenticity to the narrative.

In an expansion of its global reach, it was confirmed in 2019 that Fauda would release an Indian adaptation. Thus, in 2022, Tanaav was released, a ramake focused on the conflictive relations between India and Pakistan, produced by Applause Entertainment. Like the original material, its first season received good reviews from critics and in 2023 it was renewed for a second season.
Lior Raz, beyond his role in Fauda, has recently been involved in rescue missions in southern Israel, specifically in the city of Sderot. Raz reportedly participated in the evacuation of two Israeli families following attacks by the Palestinian group Hamas. The actor shared a video of the operation on his Instagram account, where he was seen accompanied by Yohanan Plesner and Avi Yissascharov, both with backgrounds in the IDF.

Raz was part of a group of volunteers who worked to help the people of southern Israel in the midst of terrorist attacks. Her previous experience in the IDF and her ability to speak fluent Arabic were factors that contributed to her participation in these critical missions.
