Fauci: “Most of them will be infected with Omicron, but if you get a vaccine, you can prevent severe cases”

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), who serves as chief medical adviser to the White House, said on the 12th (local time) that most people will be exposed to the omicron mutation, but the majority will not be seriously ill.

“The risk of serious consequences following vaccination is low,” Fauci said at a briefing at the White House on Wednesday, adding to the remarks made by Acting Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director Janet Woodcock the day before.

“Most people will get COVID-19,” Woodcock said the day before.

“When Acting Director Woodcock said that most of us will eventually get Omicron, he’s not saying that most of us will get sick from Omicron,” Fauci said. They will be well protected from death.”

But in an interview with the American think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) the day before, he warned that “unfortunately, those who have not yet been vaccinated will face a serious situation.”

Fauci also emphasized that COVID-19 will not be eradicated or eliminated, but it can be controlled.

“What Acting Director Woodcock was trying to say is that if people get the vaccine and the booster shot, virtually everyone is exposed and even if they get infected, the chances of getting sick are very low,” he added.
