(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Dong-hyun = President Joe Biden, who has contracted COVID-19, said on the 23rd (local time) that President Joe Biden, who has been stricken with COVID-19, is “actually doing very well,” said Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who has led the U.S. response to COVID-19.

“The president keeps getting better,” Fauci, a medical adviser to President Biden, said in an interview on CBS.

Director Fauci said, “The president is doing his job with burns and is doing well as the days pass. As I said before, the president was vaccinated and received two booster shots, which is very effective in stopping the progression of the disease,” Fauci said. I am taking Paxrovid, so I expect to be in very good condition in the future.”

He explained that President Biden wears a mask when he is with other people and that he is following CDC guidelines when not in use.

President Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on the morning of the 21st.

Although President Biden is at high risk due to his 79-year-old age, the White House said he is working in isolation as he suffers from very mild symptoms such as a runny nose, fatigue and intermittent dry cough.

Dr Kevin O’Connor, President Biden’s doctor, said in a statement on the 23rd that the virus infected by President Biden is most likely to be BA.5, a sub-mutation of the Omicron.

Currently, there are 126,000 new confirmed cases per day in the United States due to the spread of BA.

However, Fauci said, “The actual number of infections is probably many times higher than the count because many infected people do not report to the authorities if their symptoms are mild or moderate.”

He said that the average number of hospitalized patients per day is regarding 40,000, and that there are 300 to 400 deaths related to COVID-19.

However, he predicted that one day, Corona 19 will reach a stage where it does not significantly affect our daily life.

“I don’t think we will eventually get rid of or eradicate this virus,” he said. “This virus is so contagious that it won’t just go away. We’ll have to live with it.”

“We all want to be free from the virus, but not yet. We must learn to live with the virus, but to do that, we must respond better than we are now.”

He also emphasized the importance of inoculating vaccines with booster shots and wearing a mask indoors where the possibility of infection is high.
