Adriana Ruano dressed as a national heroine last Tuesday, July 31, after obtaining the first gold medal for Guatemala and becoming the first woman to win an Olympic medal for the country.

She competed against 5 other great rivals who have had world and Olympic achievements, one of them was the Spanish Fatima Galvez, gold medalist at Tokyo 2021.

The Spanish woman expressed dissatisfaction with the environment surrounding the event: “It makes no sense that in a sport that requires concentration and precision, the stands are screaming, encouraging their shooters.“I’m happy for us, but it doesn’t make sense,” she said.

She stressed that she compared her competition to that of men: “But I claim that it is a sport of precision and that the stands must be silent. Apparently there was no music in the men’s final.”.

Throughout the entire final, a constant murmur could be heard from the stands, as well music played by the organizationsomething that could be striking in one of the disciplines that require a higher level of concentration, however, it did not affect her other teammates as much. Adriana Ruano was not affected at all by all these conditions, even making an Olympic record.

Likewise, the Cordovan also pointed out some annoyance at the start time, given that “If men start at half past nine, why do women have to start at nine? If there was a reflection on the curtain, then there is no reflection for us? That bothers me a lot. There is no equality in any sensethat had to be said,” adding that “Playing the card of the crowd’s shouting is not fair play, even if it is the same for everyone.”

It is worth mentioning that Gálvez was the second to be eliminated in the final of the eventin the previous round had finished in second place with 122 shots made out of 125, In the final he made 23 shots out of 30; while Ruano greatly improved his performance in the final round despite the “screams” of those present.
