(CNN Spanish) — She is the best known and probably one of the best imitators of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in Argentina. And for a few months she has been the girlfriend of one of her biggest political rivals: the presidential candidate Javier Milei, who became known for reviling what he calls the “political caste” and especially Kirchnerism, with which he has said that seeks to end.
But beyond her famous romance, Fátima Florez is a well-known actress and comedian who has filled theaters in Argentina for years, mainly with her shows where she imitates numerous figures. In addition, she has participated in successful TV programs such as Periodismo para todos, hosted by Jorge Lanata, and Bailando por un sueño with Marcelo Tinelli.
“I never believed that a political program would give me so much popularity, a Martín Fierro award (the highest award on local TV). It is the dream of all actors and it might be fulfilled thanks to the character of Cristina,” he told CNN in 2014.
Even when she is invited to television interviews, it is common for them to ask her to do a series of imitations, one following the other, and she is capable, without masks or costumes, of embodying more than twenty characters ranging from actresses and hosts from Argentine TV such as Susana Giménez, Mirtha Legrand, Moria Casán or Nacha Guevara; politicians such as the current vice president, the former governor of Buenos Aires María Eugenia Vidal and the former deputy Elisa Carrió; and even international figures such as Madonna, Shakira, Paulina Rubio or Xuxa, among many others.
“There is a lot of research, concentration, and watching millions of videos to really capture what the soul of the character is, the psychology. The color of the voice is also very important, the gestures, the movements make up the character as a whole,” he explained in an interview with CNN in 2016.
Fátima is her stage name, her real name is María Eugenia, she is 42 years old and grew up in Olivos, a neighborhood on the outskirts of the Argentine capital where the presidential residence is located. Her pseudonym, as she has said in numerous interviews, was adopted by her at the suggestion of her ex-husband, Norberto Marcos, whom she met in Peru when she went to work in 2001 and who until the beginning of the year was also her historic producer of it.
After 22 years, their emotional and professional separation occupied space in local entertainment programs and portals at the beginning of the year, as did their new romance with the presidential candidate.
An unexpected and particular relationship
A week following the primary elections on August 13, it was announced that the candidate with the most votes, the right-wing populist Javier Milei, had begun a relationship with Flórez.
The moment chosen to announce the romance, in the middle of the electoral campaign, generated suspicions, but they have not given rise to those speculations.
