Fatick, June 29 (APS) – The Director General of Senegal Numérique, Cheikh Bakhoum, and the Attaché for Cooperation of the Belgian Embassy in Dakar, Vincent Drieskens, proceeded, on Wednesday, to the inauguration of the Digital House “connect’elles” of the “badiénou gox” (neighbourhood godmothers) of the Fatick region, noted the APS.
“This ceremony is the culmination of the partnership agreement between the NGO Enabel and Digital Senegal,” said Mr. Bakhoum, in the presence of the administrative authorities.
Enabel has made available to the ”badiénou gox” of the Fatick region, a multimedia room made up of twenty computers with central units, an internet connection and software.
Entirely financed, fitted out and equipped with IT equipment by the Kingdom of Belgium, these digital houses constitute, according to the DG of Digital Senegal, the link that completes the support system for the ”badiénou gox”.
To modernize the working conditions of the “badiénou gox”, the NGO Enabel has initiated, in partnership with Digital Senegal, a digital literacy training program to strengthen the digital skills of these community relays, he said. he indicates.
This program supports the training of “badiénou gox” in the use of Smartphones in their activities, but also in the use of social networks, he added.
“Thanks to this partnership, these neighborhood godmothers are now equipped with digital skills that allow them to significantly improve their working conditions,” said the general manager of Digital Senegal.
“This is why we are resolutely committed to continuing our cooperation with Enabel so that digital for all can be a reality throughout the country,” Mr. Bakhoum said.
“This inauguration ceremony concretely illustrates this commitment of Belgium alongside Senegal in reducing the digital divide, for his part, underlined the Attaché for Development Cooperation of the Belgian Embassy in Dakar. , Vincent Drieskens.
He assured that by supporting the training of ”badiènou gox”, we aim to increase and strengthen the exercise of human rights, women and girls.
He hailed the “essential role” of these women in the fight once morest maternal and infant mortality, a major theme of Belgium’s development cooperation in the regions of Dakar, Fatick, Kaolack and Kaffrine.
”In these regions, more than 460 women are trained in the use of computer tools and smartphones to ensure the collection, processing and transmission of data in the field,” he said.
In order to consolidate the achievements of this program and guarantee its sustainability, the NGO Enabel has undertaken to finance the development and equipment of rooms with computer equipment and internal network in Kaolack, Kaffrine and Koungheul, he said. he called back.
These rooms, called digital houses, give the “badiénou gox” the opportunity to put into practice the skills acquired during the training sessions.
This program also aims to reduce the gender digital divide and promote the fight once morest maternal and infant mortality in rural areas.
