Almost a year ago to the day, young Francis, 16, lost his life in a road accident. He was cycling on the bridge cycle path over the E17 at Thames when he was hit by a 33-year-old driver. On the run, the latter will be arrested a few moments later in Saint-Nicolas, following a new accident in which he had struck an electric pole. The driver tested positive for alcohol and cannabis.

A few days ago, Peter Aerts, Francis’ father, posted on Facebook the name and photos of the driver, released from prison since January pending trial. With the caption: “Attention, child murderer!”. We see him in particular at the wheel of his car, as well as partying. “I mightn’t contain myself anymore. He ruined my life”, explained Peter Aerts to the Nieuwsblad. “I have nothing more to lose,” he repeated to HLN. “I can’t forgive him. A year later, my life is completely ruined”.

We learn today that the prosecution of East Flanders has opened an investigation once morest Francis’ father for violation of privacy. However, no complaint has been filed. The driver’s lawyer said he did not intend to file a complaint.
