A father who refused at all costs to call his ex-spouse to take care of his young children aged 3 and 5 had to answer for his actions in court for having preferred to leave them to themselves for seven hours in order to to replace an absent colleague.
“A colleague was absent, they called me. I didn’t think more than that […] I made a mistake. I regret”, would have indicated the forties before the judicial court of Boulogne-sur-Mer, in the north of France, according to what France Live reported on Monday.
It was last April that the two young children, aged 3 and 5, were discovered in the apartment by a neighbor, when the oldest told her that he had been alone with his little sister for hours.
That day, the father had chosen to leave his accommodation, leaving the two children there, after having received a call informing him that a colleague had to be absent from work. But due to a tense climate with his ex-spouse, he would also have decided not to call her to come and pick up the young people.
“Wasn’t there a solution? It was a very long time for children, denounced the president of the court, according to information from The voice of the North. You preferred to endanger the children rather than call him.
However, it was not the first time that the father of the family abandoned his young children for several hours, he would have admitted in court, he who used to abandon them for two to three hours.
For her part, the mother of the children testified to the impact on the latter, who have been struggling to sleep since.
“The children were scared. […] The little one comes to join me in my bed to see if I’m there. My boy is disturbed, he will have to be followed, ”she lamented, according to the French media.
The man received a five-month suspended prison sentence and will have to follow a parenting course, France Live reported.
