The father of Derlin Javier Mercado Martínez, one of those accused of killing a 9-year-old boy in Santiago, made his first statements on the case.
When interviewed by local media, the man (who did not identify himself) regretted the fact, and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased minor, adding that he hopes that justice will take care of the fate of his son.
“Let the justice order, do the thing as it has to be done, my condolences to the relatives and they make their decisions there… they are seeing my face on camera, but they will not see it in any jail,” he said.
Likewise, regarding Derlin Javier, he assured that he tried to help him as much as he might, indicating that he got his son to move to New York, United States, with the goal of achieving a better life. However, he admitted that this might not be possible.
“I even sent him to New York to see if he would get ahead, because he didn’t want to get ahead, and what he came to do was his ‘toyo’ from there to here,” he said.
The case
The incident happened last Wednesday when Giosier Feliz arrived with his family from the Cibao International Airport, and they were heading to the community of Villa Vásquez, Montecristi.
There the family was approached by alleged robbers, who with a shot blinded the life of the minor.
The boy was taken by ambulance to the Doctor Arturo Grullón Regional Children’s Hospital in Santiago, where two pints of blood were transfused and he underwent surgery, but two hours later he was declared dead.

So far, the National Police has announced that six people are in prison for the case.
These are Derlin Javier, César Junior Ulloa Cuevas, José Manuel Almonte Santana “Buki”, Elian Martínez Sánchez “Odalis”, Luis Ángel Vargas Brito and Tomás Espinal Morel.
