The 37-year-old was still sitting in the car when his 10-year-old daughter’s “practice drive” began on a private field next to the house on Saturday around midday. The man from the Vöcklabruck district sat in the passenger seat and let the 10-year-old drive. Her younger sister was also there – the 7-year-old sat in the back seat.
When the self-proclaimed “driving lesson” was over, the father got out of the car and opened the gate to the house. At that moment, the 10-year-old apparently took her foot off the clutch and stepped on the gas.
Car crashed head-on into house wall
Judging by the tracks in the grass, the wheels must have spun at first, the police report – but then they reached asphalt and had a grip. The car crashed into the house wall with force, the front airbags were triggered and both girls were seriously injured.
According to police, the 7-year-old was bleeding from her mouth, and according to initial reports, the 10-year-old was injured in her leg. The girls were taken to hospital in Salzburg by the Red Cross. The car suffered considerable damage.
The police send a message to the public prosecutor’s office, which must then assess the criteria according to which the father should be reported.
