The father had forgotten to take his little daughter to daycare in the morning, reported the Ansa news agency. Instead, the man drove to his workplace and parked his car in a parking lot in an industrial area in the municipality of Marcon near Venice.
In the area in northern Italy, temperatures reached up to 34 degrees in the shade. The man only realized several hours later that he had forgotten his daughter in the locked car when he and his colleagues were going on their lunch break. Emergency services were alerted and might only confirm the child’s death. The father was taken to hospital in the Venice district of Mestre in shock and is now receiving psychological care together with the toddler’s mother, Ansa reported.

Large parts of Italy have been hit by a heat wave for several days. The south of the Mediterranean country is particularly affected, with temperatures of 35 to 37 degrees measured in some places on Thursday. It was also very hot in the capital Rome, with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees. Temperatures in the tourist hotspot Florence were similarly high. In the north, it was a little more bearable, with just over 30 degrees. Experts repeatedly warn once morest leaving children in closed cars in summer temperatures.
