The father of a student at Lauderdale Lakes Elementary School in Florida is facing unsafe firearm storage charges after a gun was found in his son’s backpack.
The firearm was discovered in the morning, around 9:15 a.m., which forced the school to impose a preventive confinement, reports CBS News Miami.
“This morning, our security team confiscated a loaded firearm that was found in a student’s backpack,” school principal Rhonda Parris told American media. This situation has posed no threat to our school, and all of our students are safe.”
Rasheed Anderson, 34, was arrested following this event.
In addition to charges of unsafe storage of a firearm, he also faces charges of possession of a firearm after two guns were found in his vehicle.
Neither the school nor the police could confirm how the school discovered the gun and whether the student would be reprimanded.
