A father prosecuted for raping his daughter when she was only 11 years old was acquitted on Friday by the Verviers criminal court. The man, born in 1965, was also prosecuted for having violated his sexual integrity as well as that of another young girl under the age of 16.

The investigation began with a complaint filed in July 2020 by a young woman. The victim said that he had been the victim of two distinct series of facts: the first dates back to his 11 years, when she was in sixth primary. There followed an interruption until 2010, when the facts would have resumed, while the mother of the victim was hospitalized following a ruptured aneurysm.

“The young woman first published a message, where she expressed her discomfort on social networks. His brother reported it to their father. Father and daughter had an explanation. Following this discussion, the young woman filed a complaint”, explained the public prosecutor who considered that all the preventions were established. While the magistrate in charge of the case demanded a 5-year prison sentence, the defendant strongly contested these accusations. The court followed the line of defense of the defendant’s lawyer who insisted on the inconsistencies in the speech of the young woman, her lack of modesty but also on the double face that she would present.

The court therefore decided to acquit the forty-something.
