Fateful Night in Malmö: City Reels as Gunfire Claims Innocent Life

The man in his 50s was in an apartment when he was shot and seriously wounded, the police write in a press release night to Monday. The police believe that the shots were fired from outside, through a window.

The man was taken to hospital where he died a few hours later from his injuries. It is not known if there were other people in the apartment when the shots fell.

According to Swedish TV4 the police suspect that the man was killed by accidental shooting and another person may have been the target.

16-year-old arrested

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Monday morning and charged in the case. He will be questioned during the morning.

After the man’s murder, the police made an extensive weapons seizure. According to SVT Nyheter Skåne, the police have found two pistols, a Kalashnikov and three grenades in a nearby location. It is not known if this is the seizure the police are referring to.

Suspicious object

The police also found a suspicious object outside the apartment where the shooting took place, and bomb experts will examine the object.

The place was cordoned off in the morning hours after police dog handlers found the object.

Residents of a property closest to the discovery site on Soprangatan have been asked to stay indoors and away from windows.

The shooting was reported at 4.42 on Monday night.
