A 15-year-old boy was killed and three people injured by gunfire in broad daylight on Saturday in Stockholm, police said, adding that the circumstances were yet to be clarified.

An hour following the incident, two men were arrested following a chase in the south of the Swedish capital, according to the police. Informed of a shooting near a square in the south of the city just following 6:00 p.m., the police discovered two people at the scene with gunshot wounds. Two others were nearby, one of whom succumbed to his injuries. The three injured were hospitalized.

On Friday, three people were shot and injured in separate incidents in the Stockholm area. In recent years, Sweden has struggled to stem a wave of shootings and bombings blamed on gangs settling scores over drug trafficking. The country saw 391 shootings in 2022, 62 of them fatal, compared to 45 the previous year, according to police data.
