Fatal Shooting by Orlando Police: Hispanic Man Allegedly Disobeys Orders – Investigation Underway

ORLANDO, Florida. – A Hispanic man died at the hands of the Orlando Police (OPD, for its acronym in English) following he allegedly did not follow the orders of an officer and made a movement as if he were going to draw a weapon, according to local authorities.

In a news release, police said the suspect, whose name has not been released, “disobeyed the orders given by the officer and made a motion as if to draw a weapon.”

Due to the movement, the officer shot the victim. The events occurred at 1:52 am while officers were on patrol in the area of ​​Jefferson Street and N. Orange Avenue.

“This has been a hotspot for criminal activity where we have seized many weapons in recent months. Probable cause was developed to believe the suspect was involved in drug activity,” police said in the written statements.

The officer involved was not injured and will be on paid administrative leave.

The officer had his body camera on during the incident and, per policy, body camera footage will be made available to the public within 30 days.

FDLE will conduct an independent review of the incident, followed by the State’s Attorney’s office.

In addition, the Orlando Police Department will conduct its own internal investigation.
