Two people were killed and seven others were injured, including a police officer, following a shooting early Saturday morning at CityPlace Doral, authorities reported.
The incident began due to an argument between customers at the Martini Bar around 3:30 a.m. A security guard intervened and a man shot and killed him inside the establishment, said Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta.
Several Doral police officers confronted the suspect and at least two fired their weapons, killing the man. One of the police officers was injured and six other people, two women and four men, were also injured and transported to the hospital, Zabaleta said. Two of the injured people are in critical condition.
“The Department of Law Enforcement at this time is collecting all the evidence and speaking with all the witnesses who were present here, who may have information regarding this incident,” Zabaleta said.
Authorities confirmed that the injured police officer has been with the agency for four years and was released from Jackson Memorial Hospital following being treated.
Doral Police Chief Edwin López described the officers who confronted the suspect as “heroes” and highlighted the training that police agencies receive.
Exactly one year ago, several Miami-Dade County police agencies participated in an active shooter drill at that same site.
