Fatal scooter accident in Drummondville: “we don’t blame the driver”

Following a scooter accident that claimed the life of their 15-year-old son on Wednesday evening in Drummondville, bereaved parents are calling for caution on the roads.

Despite their immense pain, the parents of the victim show extraordinary strength of character. They do not yet know all the circumstances of the accident, but they do not blame the driver of the van involved in the drama.

Less than two days following the tragic death of their son Jasmin, parents are calling on young people, but also motorists, to be careful.

They said they were grateful for the wave of love that washed over them, as well as all these testimonies of support. Words of encouragement from the teenager’s friends and other parents are extremely valuable to them.

To the driver of the van that hit their son’s moped on Wednesday night, they insist he knows they feel no resentment or bitterness towards him.

With the return of good weather, more and more young people are riding around on their scooters.

The victim’s mother, Nancy Duperron, wants all road users to be extra careful.

Jasmin Béliveau, 15, lost his life when he collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection of rue Robert-Bernard and boulevard René-Lévesque.

The police and coroner’s investigation, Yvon Garneau, is continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding this accident.

According to the first elements of the investigation, one of the two drivers would have passed on the red light then in force.

“I don’t know what happened. For the moment, I have no idea and I don’t blame anyone,” said Jasmin’s mother, Nancy Duperron.

“Young people, you are our life, you are our breath. Parents, we breathe through you, so be careful.”

According to the SAAQ, more than 34,000 people hold a license to drive a moped.

In 2021, 703 were involved in an accident compared to 453 in 2020; a significant increase of 55%.
