Fatal Off-Road Crash in Dumont Dunes Claims Life of Las Vegas Man

DUMONT DUNES, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Authorities in San Bernardino County have confirmed that the victim of the tragic off-road crash that occurred in Dumont Dunes is 45-year-old Levi R. Fackrell, who resided in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The unfortunate incident took place on November 10, 2024, at around 1:30 PM, prompting an immediate response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Barstow Area after receiving calls regarding a severe traffic accident within the Dumont Dunes off-highway vehicle area. This region is known for its vast desert landscapes, attracting off-road enthusiasts and families alike.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found that Fackrell was operating a 2020 Jeep Gladiator, heading north through the picturesque but perilous terrain of the Dumont Dunes at an undetermined speed. The vehicle was carrying three additional occupants from Las Vegas: a 41-year-old woman and two children, aged 8 and 7.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Fackrell lost control of the Jeep as it maneuvered along a steep dirt embankment. The vehicle struck the ground forcefully before overturning and landing on its roof. Emergency personnel arrived quickly but unfortunately pronounced Fackrell dead at the scene due to the extensive injuries he sustained during the crash.

The surviving passengers were fortunate to have only sustained minor injuries and were subsequently transported to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas for care. Their swift medical attention highlights the responsive emergency services in the area.

As of now, investigators do not suspect that alcohol or drugs played a role in this unfortunate accident. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities encourage anyone with further information to contact Officer W. Benson at the California Highway Patrol Barstow Area office at (760) 255-5900.
