A woman († 28) lost her life in a diving accident in Lake Walen near Murg SG on Sunday.
A dive on Sunday ended fatally in the Walensee near Murg SG. As the canton police in St. Gallen reported, a woman († 28) died in a diving accident shortly following 10.30 a.m.
According to current knowledge, the fatality was a diving student. She is said to have panicked underwater and lost consciousness. Eventually she had to be rescued. Her dive buddy tried in vain to bring her to the surface using an emergency ascent. Instead, the 28-year-old drifted further down.
Two other divers in the group were finally able to bring the lifeless woman to the surface. Despite rescue measures immediately initiated by an emergency doctor and the rescue service, the woman died on the spot. The police divers of the St. Gallen cantonal police are investigating the precise course of the accident. (dzc)
