A tragic alpine accident occurred on Sunday: A 51-year-old woman from Tennengau fell while descending the rock face during a family outing and suffered fatal injuries.

The Hallein mountain rescue service was alerted on Sunday, shortly before 2 p.m.: A family from Hallein was descending on their hike from Barmstein when the mother suddenly fell over steep terrain. “The father was leading the way with his son in the steeper terrain,” says Hallein operations manager Franz Klausner, describing the situation, “when the 51-year-old fell regarding 100 meters. Ascending hikers immediately alerted the emergency services from the rescue helicopter team, mountain rescue and Alpine police.”
But although help was quickly on site, “the woman died immediately due to her serious injuries.” She might only be rescued dead by the nine Hallein mountain rescuers who were on site with an emergency doctor and flown into the valley by the Libelle helicopter team.

The son and husband of the victim were cared for by the Red Cross crisis intervention team. The Alpine police and the Hallein mountain rescue service as well as the ÖAMTC helicopter were in action.

The Großer Barmstein with a height of 851 meters is considered steep and demanding, but easy to walk on.
