The accident occurred on Wednesday night, when the driver lost control on a winding stretch of highway and plunged into a ravine in the city of Sapopema, about 70 kilometers from the vehicle’s final destination, according to preliminary investigations. .
The bus transported outsourced workers from various regions of the country, who, according to the Brazilian press, had left Minas Gerais (southeast) to work in Paraná in the maintenance of a paper factory.
For its part, the Paraná Fire Department reported that search and rescue teams continue to work at the scene of the incident, since many victims remain trapped inside the vehicle.
“The search, rescue and attention work continues in the area where the bus fell,” confirmed a spokesman for the entity by telephone. He added that the rescued wounded are being transferred to various hospitals in the region and present different levels of severity.
According to witnesses, it was raining heavily at the time of the accident and the section where the accident occurred is made up of a series of sharp curves that impair the visual range of drivers.
