Fastest Train in South America: Santiago-Curicó Express Service

In a milestone for the modernization of railway services, last Friday, January 19 the first trip of the fastest train in South America was made. This transformative connection, which in its first stage will operate between Central Station and Curicówill soon extend to Chillán, marking progress in the plan “Trains to Chile.”

The new express service, connects the Metropolitan and Maule regions in 2 hoursuses modern BMU trains, establishing a historical record as it is the first time that a commercial railway reaches the 160 kilometers per hour in Chile.

The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, highlighted the importance of this advance, pointing out that “Chile once once more takes the lead in transportation with trains that have nothing to envy of those used in Europe or other parts of the world.”

The implementation of the service considers the extension to Talca in March and Chillán during the second quarter of 2024, further consolidating the national railway network.

Tickets for the Santiago-Curicó Fast Train vary depending on the class:

  • Standard: $13,900
  • Standard Plus: $20,990

The modern trains offer amenities such as reclining seats, adapted bathrooms, an equipped cafeteria and information screens. Service schedules are flexible, with three frequencies in each direction from Sunday to Friday and two additional services on Saturdays.

Curicó – Central Station:

  • Monday to Sunday: 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 09:30 – 12:50
  • Sunday to Friday: 08:00 – 11:00 – 12:20

Central Station – Curicó:

  • Monday to Friday: 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 9:30 am
  • Sunday to Friday: 08:00 – 09:20
