Motorcycling » Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) won the MotoGP Argentine Grand Prix at Termas de Rio Hondo. The Spaniard thus celebrated his first success in the world championship, all categories combined. The eldest of the Espargaro brothers, who had taken pole position, was surprised at the start by his compatriot Jorge Martin (Ducati). He followed him closely for much of the race before overtaking him with five laps to go. This well-known tuner, aged 32, had his moment of glory for his 200th GP in the premier category, the 284th in total.

“It was long! I am so happy. There was a lot of pressure, the race was not easy, I sometimes lacked grip. It’s just a dream to be at the top of the championship,” he said. The Spaniards crushed the race, taking the first four places. Behind the winner, Martin finished 2nd at 0”807 ahead of the Suzukis of Alex Rins (at 1”330) and Joan Mir (at 1”831). Defending champion, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) finished 8th. ats
