Faster job opportunities for young Aysl eligible people

“We always wish for more. But I believe that we can maintain all the important projects and still support the key areas.” With these words, Economics and Labor Minister Martin Kocher yesterday took stock of the budget for his departments and presented the most important points.

9.35 billion euros are available for the labor market. 1.42 billion euros are budgeted for active support in finding a job in 2024: Although that is five percent more than in 2023, the increase is well below the inflation rate. In this context, Kocher referred to falling unemployment figures: more than 4,000 euros are available per unemployed person, which is the second highest value ever achieved. Chamber of Labor President Renate Anderl described the lack of savings measures as positive.

One billion comes from the budget, the rest from reserves of the employment service.

One focus is on young people entitled to asylum and those entitled to subsidiary protection: they should be integrated into the labor market more quickly than before. 75 million euros are available for an “intensive program”. People under 25 should find a job more quickly, ideally within a few months to six months. Training and language courses should take place in parallel. An additional 1,000 people with asylum and protection status recently visited the AMS every month.

The fees for the master’s and qualification examinations are to be permanently eliminated retroactively from July 1st, for which there was praise from the Chamber of Commerce. In addition, the Federal Competition Authority BWB will be increased by 18 to 67 positions.

“Leader in microchips”

Kocher also announced that he would strengthen the microchip industry: Semiconductor production in Europe is expected to double from ten to 20 percent of the global market by 2030. More than 2.8 billion euros will flow into research and production in Austria by 2031 as part of the EU “Chips Act”, and 150 million euros will flow by 2024. Kocher described Austria as the leading microchip location in Europe: 72,000 employees work in 280 companies.
