“This decision was made by analyzing passenger flows, taking into account the needs of passengers and further improving the convenience and attractiveness of travel in the city by public transport,” says Mindaugas Tarasevičius, marketing director of the Kauno buses company.
Until now, residents of this district could reach the city center by bus route 44 “Liucijanavas St. – Kaunas Castle”. Due to the existing road infrastructure, passengers were transported on this route by small buses, so during peak hours, passengers had to squeeze a lot.
“In recent years, Romainiai has experienced long-awaited changes – the main streets here, which receive the largest traffic flows, have been improved. The new route will further improve the communication of local residents with other micro-districts – for work, studies or leisure”, Kaunas Deputy Mayor Andrius Palionis has no doubts.
A standard bus will run on the 71st T route, which will accommodate significantly more passengers. It will run from the E. Voltera stop along M. and P. Šalčiai, Romainiai, Kaimelė, Liucijanava, Bivyliai, Romainiai streets, go down the Šilainiai highway (past “Regitra”) and drop off passengers at the rear stop “Kaniūkai”.
From the “Kaniūkai” stop, the bus will return to Romainii on the Raudondvaris highway, go up the hill on the Šilainiai highway, continue along Romainiai, Bivylaii, Liucijanava, Kaimelė, Romainiai and M. and P. Šalčių streets to the last stop.
The planned duration of the new route is 13 to 20 minutes one way, depending on traffic conditions.
“Almost 7,000 Romanians live approximately 600 meters from the stops of the new route, including about a thousand schoolchildren,” says Simonas Čižauskas, the company’s public transport data analyst. “A significant number of them choose public transport, so we plan the new bus schedules in such a way that after getting off at the last stop, they can transfer to another vehicle within five minutes and from there reach any necessary travel point in the city.”
We remind you that those who pay for Kaunas public transport using the “Žiogas” app or by marking an electronic ticket card have the opportunity to change to another bus or trolleybus route once every 30 minutes.

**Interview with Mindaugas Tarasevičius, Marketing Director of Kauno Buses**
**Interviewer**: Thank you for joining us today, Mindaugas. Can you explain the reasons behind the changes to the bus routes in Kaunas?
**Mindaugas Tarasevičius**: Thank you for having me. The decision to modify our bus routes was primarily based on analyzing passenger flows and understanding the needs of our community. Our goal is to enhance the convenience and attractiveness of public transport in the city, especially for those living in the outskirts.
**Interviewer**: What specifically prompted the change in the bus route for residents in the Romainiai district?
**Mindaugas Tarasevičius**: Previously, residents had access to bus route 44, which used small buses. This often led to overcrowding during peak hours. Now, with the main streets in Romainiai improved, we’re able to introduce a standard bus on the new 71st T route. This will significantly increase capacity and comfort for our passengers.
**Interviewer**: How will this new route benefit local residents?
**Mindaugas Tarasevičius**: The new route is designed to better connect local residents with key areas of the city for work, education, and leisure activities. It will operate along several streets, enhancing communication between micro-districts, which is crucial for the community.
**Interviewer**: What are the operational details of the new 71st T route?
**Mindaugas Tarasevičius**: The route will start from the E. Voltera stop, travel through several local streets, and eventually head down the Šilainiai highway to drop off passengers at the ”Kaniūkai” stop. This will ensure that the bus can accommodate more passengers and improve the overall travel experience.
**Interviewer**: How do you see public transport evolving in Kaunas in the coming years?
**Mindaugas Tarasevičius**: We are continuously looking for ways to enhance our services, listening to passenger feedback, and analyzing travel patterns. The goal is to create a more efficient and user-friendly public transport system that meets the demands of our growing population.
**Interviewer**: Thank you, Mindaugas, for your insights. It sounds like Kaunas is making significant strides in improving public transport.
**Mindaugas Tarasevičius**: Thank you for having me! We’re excited about these changes and are dedicated to providing the best possible service to our passengers.
